Educational appliances; electricity and mechanics, teaching.-An apparatus for mechanically illustrating various magnetic and mechanical laws consists of a heavy bar A, supported through its centre of gravity H and carrying a pointer B which moves over a scale C. Two or more pins D, E are fixed to the bar to carry small weights, so that the bar with a weight on one of the pins represents a suspended magnet under the influence of a field of force, and its oscillations in a vertical plane represent the oscillations of a magnet in an horizontal plane. Small weights representing deflecting forces are attached to the pin D by a string passing over a small pulley F. This pulley is adjustable in height so that the forces may be applied in any direction.
