A flight optimisation system includes an onboard aircraft system 450, event measurement system 340 and network allocation system 345. The onboard system comprises a flight management system 110 and an onboard network server 130 which obtains flight data from the aircraft. The event management system downloads the flight data and initiates a pre-flight cycle of the aircraft by analysing the flight data and calculating updated payload capacity and fuel bias values. The network allocation system uses the values to generate an updated tail assignment plan (i.e. optimised allocation of the aircraft to specific routes). Also disclosed is a flight optimisation system which generates flight data via an onboard aircraft system; performs a pre-flight cycle by determining an updated tail assignment plan from the flight data; performs an in-flight cycle by processing in-flight and external data and transmitting it to an electronic flight bag 200 for flight path optimisation; and performs a post-flight cycle wherein post flight and operational data are processed and send to fleet support 90 and maintenance 95 systems for updating data-driven flight and maintenance plans.
