To provide a simple, quick and inexpensive method for isolating a hay bacillus from an environment and a novel hay bacillus strain isolated by the same method.SOLUTION: The method comprises: (A) a step for sterilizing a sample including a hay bacillus so that spore bearing bacteria are left; (B) a first cultivation step for cultivating bacteria in the sterilized sample using a first medium which substantially includes no lecitin-containing substance, sugar generating acid by being decomposed by a hay bacillus, and blood, for acquiring bacteria of Bacillus; and (C) a second cultivation step for cultivating the bacteria of Bacillus from the first cultivation step using a second medium including at least one kind of the lecitin-containing substance, sugar generating acid by being decomposed by the hay bacillus, and blood, and if the sugar is included, the medium further including a pH indicator, for acquiring the hay bacillus from the cultivated bacteria. There is also provided a novel hay bacillus strain isolated from active sludge by the method.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
