Minimizing the environmental load and cost throughout the product lifecyde requires appropriate lifecycle design as well as product design.Product lifecyde can be planned easily by describing lifecycle scenarios at an early stage of lifecycle design and the product should be designed so as to realize the scenario.Lifecycle scenario is a description of the anticipated product lifecycle and it mainly consists of lifecycle options,such as recycling,maintenance,reuse,and upgrading,This article proposes a design method of modular product architecture based on lifecycle scanados.We consider that modular design is an effective design technique that relates a described product lifecycle scanado to its product design,since modularized components can go through the same path in the lifecycle flow in order to manage the resources of the product throughout the lifecycle processes efficiently.We also propose an index for evaluating the resource efficiency of a modularized product by considering increased performance in various lifecycle stages,such as disassemblability,maintainability,upgradability,reusa bility,and recyclability.A case study compared two types of modular structure dedved from two scenarios in order to discuss effectiveness of the proposed method.
