The Coastal Water Authority of Texas installed three 2740 mm (108-inch) PCCP water pipelines across the Houston Ship Channel in 1972. The three pipelines were laid by subaqueous methods in a common trench at a depth of 24 m (72 feet) below sea level across the ship channel. In the land areas approaching the channel the pipelines have a cover of approximately 3 m (10 ft). In 1990n one of the pipes ruptured in the north approach to the channel. In 1991 another failure occurred to the south of the channel. Replacements of the failed pipe sections were accomplished, however subsequent investigations determined additional pipe sections had embrittled wire. A decision was made to renovate all three 2740 mm (108-inch) pipelines by sliplining with a 2590 mm (102-inch) steel pipe. The renovation was conducted in three individual construction contracts in sequence. At this time renovation of all three pipelines is complete. Construction started in 1992 and was completed in June 1998 for a total cost of approximately
