In view of the proven, excellent biocompatibility of titanium this metal has been considered as a potential metal for biomedical applications. A research group at Baylor College of Dentistry has formulated experimental titanium alloys to evaluate their potential as a dental casting alloy and to test the feasibility of using them for dental casting. This report briefly summarizes our on-going research project in which we have tested the casting performance, electrochemical behavior, biocompatibility, wear resistance, machinability, and the capacity for porcelain veneering of binary titanium alloys with Ag, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn or Pd.
