摘要

Electricity is known to be one of the top 5 factors that endangers human and infrastructure safety. The electrical accidents are caused by unsafe condition and unsafe act as described by IEEE 3007-3 standard. One of the major issues in India is the awareness of the electrical safety. Besides, most of the utilities/SEBs/DISCOMs use unskilled work force for erection, maintenance and rectification of electric system. Hence, several electrocution deaths are reported in India. To substantiate the above, 77 and 84 deaths per year are reported due to electrocution of technicians in Orissa (one of 29 states in India) in 2009-10 and 2010-11, respectively [1]. The mortality rate due to electrocution was significantly higher at 4.4 per one lakhs (100000) population as against the figures of 0.14 from Canada during 2004-2008 [2]. The present paper is aimed at developing a safety sensor which can caution the human particularly the technicians who are exposed to electricity every day. As there is no common system across India significant data is been collected on work conditions and patterns which will be discussed in the paper. Besides, the technical architecture that could meet all the different conditions and warning conditions that are derived to ensure the safety of even unskilled technicians in India will be discussed.
