摘要

This paper deals with two main and interrelated topics on glare. In the first place the newly proposed CIE Standard Disability Glare Observer is introduced, intended to replace the classic Stiles-Holladay equation. In the second place a new look is given to Stiles' formal introduction of the terms Disability and Discomfort Glare, just 70 years ago. It is argued that time has come to further split up this collective concept, and a formal proposal is made to distinguish three dimensions, one spatial, one temporal and one in intensity, resulting in a semantic glare cube with, as comer points, eight main types of glare.
