There is much research underway on flow and dispersion in urban areas. Hanna and Britter (2002) (hereafter denoted by HB) have proposed a straightforward set of formulas for estimating wind flow, turbulence, and dispersion in obstacle arrays. A simple operational model for urban areas is described in this paper and results are given of tests of the model with tracer data from Salt Lake City. Hanna (1971) suggested a simple urban dispersion model. Since that time, many field experiments and model development activities have occurred and it is possible to use this information to develop what we call "another simple urban dispersion model" (ASUDM). The current model is based on the Gaussian plume and puff model and focuses on specification of the wind profile, the friction velocity u~*, the turbulent standard deviations, and the turbulence integral time scales within and above the urban canopy. Alternate models are suggested for plumes released below the urban canopy and above the urban canopy, and smooth transitions are made between the regimes.
