摘要

Salal units are faced with the problem of recurring failure of shaft sealing leading to flooding of turbine top cover with silty water resulting in damage to turbine shaft, servomotors of guide apparatus, guide bearing pads etc. Sometimes, it leads to complete stoppage of the generating units. The paper highlights various improvements done in shaft sealing and other turbine components to resolve the problem. The state of the art technology for rehabilitation of badly worn out components has been developed and all the turbine components requiring replacement have been made interchangeable. A new design of shaft sealing for silt prone power stations has also been developed and verified through model studies.
