The work described in this paper deals with the inspection of free form surfaces by means of coordinate measuring machines (CMMs). The requirements for development of performance verification tests relevant for free form measurements are identified, and different task-specific performance verification tests presented and investigated. In particular, the investigations are concerned with the development of two new tests, the Spiral Test and the Cylinder Test. The results of these task-specific performance verification tests can be used to estimate the measuring uncertainty of similar free form measurements on production parts.
