The intense dyes, polycyanosubstituted molecules (L', LH, > ML, ML_2), which we made for the first time starting from tetracyanoethylene, have been tested as photometric indicators for optochemical sensor systems. Following previous work on L' incorporated in hybrid silica (SiO_2/PMMA) and CuL_2 in polyvinylformal (PVF), three other examples are presented here: dip-coated thin films of L' in SiO_2/PVF for detecting Hg~(2+) in water, spin-coated thick films of NiL_2 in polyvinylbutyral for organic solvent vapors in air and pure LH as evaporated thin films for ammonia or water vapor in air.
