In this study, a crucial gibberellins biosynthesis enzyme gene ent-kaurene oxidase was cloned from the library of chestnut using the strategy of homologous cloning. The length of the gene is 551 bp that is 7584% homologous to other species. Semi-quantitative RT-PCR was used to investigate the expression pattern of ent-kaurene oxidase in mutant short catkin chestnut and the normal one. The result of Semi-quantitative RT-PCR showed that the signal detected in mutant short catkin chestnut was much stronger than that in the normal one. All results show that gibberellin ent-kaurene oxidase gene participates in the process of chestnut programmed cell death.
