Area of abandoned fields has increased last three decades in Japan and some European countries.Restoration of abandoned fields is a crucial issue for keeping agricultural production and landscape.Livestock gazing on such fields may be a solution for the issue, and goat gazing has an advantage for its manageability.However, abandoned fields are basically composed of semi-natural vegetation, and they can change according to grazing managements.Stocking rate is the most powerful management tool;thus it can positively or negatively affect performance of grazing animals.The objective of this study was to determine the effect of stocking rate on forage intake and digestibility of grazing goats, and sustainable grazing on abandoned fields.
