Investigations were conducted on explosively formed penetrator(s) (EFP) of hybrid liner designs formed from diffusion bonded and unbonded copper (Cu) and tantalum (Ta) stock metallic sheets. Numerical analysis was employed in order to select two liner designs for evaluation of our concept. A total of six warheads were constructed and statically fired, and the formed penetrator was observed in flight. For all experiments, sequential orthogonal flash radiographs were used to characterize the EFP before target impact. From the experiments, it was concluded that high-density Ta and consistently ductile Cu can be integrated into a coherent, cost-effective penetrator.
