The farming system is operating in an environment specific to the locality. In this situation it is imperative that the technology should be adaptive to the tocality. It is possible to assess the location specificity of the technology only when the persons having knowledge of the locality is involved. This paper provides theoretical and applied perspectives related to participatory approach in technology development and technology transfer as applicable to Indian sugarcane farming.
