Representing Multiple Airlines to Study Fleet-Level Environmental Metrics

Assessing the fleet-level impact of a new aircraft concept on environmental metrics requires a model that determines how an airline will use the new aircraft 'within its existing fleet of older aircraft. Previous work by the authors employed an aircraft allocation / assignment model to simulate the decision-making process of a profit maximizing airline. Other models also exist to study the fleet-level impact of new aircraft concepts, however, many of these models only model a single airline. An existing aircraft allocation / assignment model is modified to represent multiple airlines to represent the actual operations of the air transportation network within the United States. A small problem consisting of five airlines using 12 aircraft models across ten airports helps evalaute several different representations of multiple airlines within the allocation / assignment problem.
