This work was carried out at the Rabbit Research Unit, Faculty of Agriculture, Cairo University, Giza, Egypt, during hot months (July and August), 2013 and 2014.The aim of this work was to investigate the effect of two housing systems on the productive and reproductive performance of New Zealand White (NZW) rabbits for predicting the main physiological responses and performance indexes.Indoor and outdoor air temperatures, relative humidity and wind speed were measured over these months.Nonlinear regression approach was used to derive a regression equation to calculate the thermal environmental index for productivity of rabbits (TEIR) and prediction of the main rabbit's physiological responses surface temperature(Tsp) inside the housing systems.In house "A", the roof gained about 78.20% of the total heat.Using 5 cm of compressed straw slabs will decrease the combined UA-value from 2,383.56 to749.11 W ℃-1 and this will decrease the heat gain or loss from the building.The data indicate that there is a need to modify the existing structural design, particularly the intense heat load transmission into the house in hot months that will cause heat stress on the rabbits and reduce their productivity.
