Your best opportunity to quickly slash costs and increase business velocity is to master supply chain execution. In today's extremely competitive Internet economy, characterized by tight labor markets, low inflation, and high-growth expectations, companies must embrace new strategies and tactics to increase business velocity. Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems are not enough to execute global plans because they are based on a 20-year-old business model. The e-business phenomenon has introduced a need for speed―an accelerated flow of inventory and information―the likes of which we have never seen before. In the emerging e-business model, response turns critical and companies must become masters of execution. The shift toward a pull-driven distribution model requires new technologies and processes to manage supply chain execution (SCE)―to optimize the actions closest to customers. (See figure 1.)
