摘要

At present,we are able to navigate about 3,600 km of inland waterways in the UK,there are not only citizens but also many tourists enjoying this navigation.In the paper this made clear the history of development and restoration and transition stage of the waterways.The history is divided into 3 periods.In this report,I describe 2.1: development of canals competitions and declination from 1700 to 1959;2.2: Era of restoration from 1960.Beginning in 1960,some citizens organized the National trust.But in 1968,settlement of Transport Act admitted its primary purpose of waterway transportation as the leisure usage and created remarkable turning point of canal history.In 1968,IWAC (inland waterways amenity advisory council);has settled.And many of citizen's group such as the Trust and WRG (waterways recovery group) co-worked with IWAC.2.2.3: Era of promotion of utilization by citizens and popularization.In 1993,BW held "200 anniversary of canal mania".About 3,000kin of canals has restored all over the UK,people can travel many places by boat.2.3 : Transition stage from 2,000 to present,Kennett & Avon Canal Inc.has been buying back the land with revenue from asset lottery and renovating canals.And the number of users of lock is 10 million and second popular tourist spot in the province.
