The incorporation of new transmission technologies I.e., digital datalinks, has notrnbeen thoroughly investigated by the UAV community. The transition from analog torndigital in UAV datalink design creates several issues that have not previously confrontedrnUAV system designers. One such issue is the latency inherent in a digital imageryrndesign. This paper discusses the effects of latency in UAV datalinks upon payload videornand operator performance. What are the impacts of latency upon system design? Isrneffective manual control of the payload still possible? The results of several laboratoryrnsimulations conducted at the Naval Air Warfare Center will be presented.
