When a municipality plans for a new Medium-Capacity Guideway Transit (MCGT)rnsystem, there is no clear process of choosing which system is the best for the givenrnsituation. Because of this, the MCGT Planning Guide was developed to analyze andrncompare the Light Rail Transit (LRT) and the Automated People Mover (APM) systems.rnThis Guide analyzes the basic characteristics of MCGT systems including capacity,rnheadway, average speed, safety, and capital costs. It also develops an MCGT planningrnprocess and establishes a range of cost-performance criteria. Furthermore, this planningrnguide offers guidance to engineers, planners, and decision-makers in the initialrnidentification of appropriate design concepts.
