This study produced two key findings. First, with a 33.5% annual increase in natural gas use, the US can act entirely on its own to bring the world to peak CO_2 by the year 2020. Second, we will be very close to meeting the necessary production if the current exponential trend of domestic NG production from hydraulic fracturing can be sustained. The difference can easily be made up if other countries will take steps to reduce their CO_2 emissions, which is likely to happen.
