These results clearly indicate that XRD is a useful tool for allophane quantification and secondly that the common extraction method yields too low allophane contents. The results indicate different chemically resistant fractions of allophanes and the presence of XRD amorphous SiO_2. The ratio Al / Si = 1.35 of allophanes is relatively constant along a crosshead of about 40 km.
