Iodine patterns were fabricated on hydrophilic nanometer scale chemical templates through the "Wetting Driven Assembly". The iodine patterns followed the shape and size of the underneath chemical templates. By varying the evaporation rate and the iodine concentration, we studied the evaporation dynamics of the iodine solution on the chemical templates. We found that the slow evaporation favored the "coffee ring" effect. Most of the iodine was deposited on the edge of the chemical template under the slow solvent evaporation. In contrast, fast evaporation favored the "Mexican Hat" effect - The iodine formed a "Mexican Hat" shaped pattern on a disc shaped chemical template. Furthermore, we found the iodine chloroform solution drop still behaved as a liquid at ～20 nm scale.
