摘要

One would expect that different economic programs shouldrncompute the same answers given the same problem statement.rnThis hypothesis was tested by providing a very simplernproblem to a number of industry personnel using variousrnsoftware programs. The results show a significant andrnsurprising difference in calculated values between the variousrnprograms. In 2000, a large project conducted by the Societyrnof Petroleum Evaluation Engineers found that the differencesrnarise from a combination of unstated assumptions; differencesrnin interpretation of various parameters; different, but equallyrnvalid, treatment of factors such as discounting or escalation;rnand apparent misunderstanding of the problem statements.rnThe results of the study indicate that there is a great need forrnstandardization and communication regarding upstreamrneconomic calculation.
