A 5kW PEM fuel cell stack has been integrated as a system for use as a truck auxiliary powerrnunit (FCAPU) such that it will provide truck electrical power with or without the dieselrnengine operating. The integrated system includes the stack complemented by an airrncompressor and air humidifier, depleted exhaust air water condenser, hydrogen fuel system,rnwater circulation system, glycol cooling system and water-glycol heat exchanger, all enclosedrnwithin an insulated enclosure to allow operation over a –40 to +55oC ambient temperaturernrange.rnThe system has been mounted on a Peterbilt tractor and operated on a test track, and subjectedrnto high and low temperatures in a thermal test chamber while operating on the tractor.
