As the world's largest overall energy consumer, and one of the largest energy producers, the USA is a key player for determining the evolution of producer-consumer relations and global energy security in the coming years. In the past, the USA has sought to find new sources of energy supplies to meet its voracious and rapidly increasing demand. Now the USA is at a potential turning point, when it could adopt a new energy strategy focused on reducing its overall energy demand and increasing its energy efficiency. If this change happens, the USA would probably emerge as a powerful partner and potential leader of the transition to a new energy era.
