Re-framing the manager's practice competence as research relationship, the author specifies challenges for practitioners converting organic processes of learning and knowing into articulated procedures of research. The practitioner's journey into the daunting domain of academe from the familiar patch of practice is depicted as spanning a chasm separating both worlds. Credible analysis and plausible outcomes are seen as twin criteria for grounded methodology that conceptualises taken-for-granted tacit 'know-how' as explicit 'know-about' of practice.
