Langmuir films of the C_(60)-pyridine, C_(60)py, and C_(60)-imidazole, C_(60)im, adducts were formed on surfaces of aqueous subphases, like pure water or water solution of tetrakis (N-methylpyridinium)porphyrin cation, Zn(TMPyP), or zinc tetrakis (4-sulfonatophenyl)porphyrin anion, Zn(TPPS). The C_(60) adducts (acceptors) self-assembled in the films, due to axial ligation of Zn porphyrins (donors), to form donor-acceptor dyads. The Langmuir films were characterized by compression isotherms and in situ Brewster angle microscopy. Aggregated "expanded liquid" Langmuir films were formed for all the dyad systems examined. The Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films of the dyads were relatively stable. The UV-vis spectroscopy measurements revealed that the water-soluble Zn porphyrins were transferred together with the C_(60) adducts in the LB films. The LB transfer efficiency increased in the order: C_(60)py-Zn(TPPS) < C_(60)py-Zn(TMPyP) < C_(60)im-Zn(TPPS) < C_(60)im-Zn(TMPyP) following the order of increase of the respective complex stability constants in solutions. Cyclic voltammetry on the LB films showed both their electroreductive and electro-oxidative activity.
