A hardware interface providing real time fully duplexed control of all lenses and deflector coils within JEOL TEM's has been developed together with control software suitable for PC operation. The hardware enables a number of alternative control modes to be enabled for each coil allowing values to be set from either the microscope or PC or both. In all cases the controlling PC automatically receives real time updates of the microscope status when this is changed from the microscope controls. In addition a number of pre defined scans are provided in firmware enabling complex multiple coil scanning conditions to be set up.
