A new idea of driving monitoring unit, "Driving energy source acquisition from monitoring objective", is introduced. Monitoring system is a general measuring system which can measure continuously. It plays an irreplaceable role in daily life, social production, and scientific research. Driving energy source of monitoring unit adopted now can be divided into two types: one is power plant electric power, such as line frequency power and battery power, the other is "Driving energy source acquisition from environment", such as beacon light or luminescent buoy in Open Ocean getting electric power from wave energy by wave power machine. In fact, most satellites drive themselves by electric energy converted from solar energy, which belong to "Driving energy source acquisition from environment". If monitoring, there surely exists movements or changes of monitoring objective. Wherever there is change there is energy. Can this kind of energy source be used to drive our monitoring unit? It is the idea that will be discussed here. Feasibilities of the idea, application area, key technologies, advantages, limitations and so on are discussed. Then an example on the utilization of the idea, a power-free wireless multi-rotation absolute axial encoder, is demonstrated. The encoder possesses a special generator that is used to covert kinetic energy of monitoring shaft into electric power. The encoder then is driven to recode the position of the shaft and send them out through radio wave and a wireless monitoring process of shaft angle absolution position is completed. The idea may provide new ways to solve driving problem of monitoring unit, may pioneer wide developmental space for wireless monitoring, and may provide new train of thoughts to energy conservation and the exploitation or utilization of special energy source.
