The age of information technology has shifted the focus of traditional education to address new paradigms, using computers to enhance teaching and research. Through the Internet and World Wide Web, universities and other institutions of learning are linked to digital technology that has increased the information available for the classroom, enhanced the options for global collaboration in teaching and research, and challenged the traditional world of education. All universities, however, are not prepared for this transition to the world of electronic information. While some universities may have limited access and facilities required for retrieving, processing and exchanging information, others may have professors and administrators hesitant to change the established teaching and research methodologies in the university environment. This paper introduces a hybrid model for incorporating the electronic means of education into the traditional university setting in making a transition to the age of information technology. Instead of a total shift or no shift to the use of information technology in the classroom, the hybrid model introduces a balanced approach. It combines the traditional and virtual worlds in making the transition to employing information technology in education.
