Fatigue cracks were found at the joint of the tubular sign frame during inspection and it was replaced promptly. Vibration and stress measurement was carried out for a newly installed sign frame. The followings summarize the results. 1) The dominant vibration of the base of the sign frame was between 2 and 4 Hz, which seems to he mainly due to the running trucks in service. 2) In service condition the maximum acceleration was 1.2 to 1.8 times more than that due to the test truck of 196kN. 3) Hourly number of cycles of acceleration and stresses were 5 to 10 times of the hourly number of traffics in service. It indicates that the number of cycles needed for fatigue life estimation can be estimated by daily traffics or daily truck traffics. 4) The stiffening rib ends near the base of the sign frame, which seems most critical in terms of fatigue cracking, showed over 80 years of fatigue life, and we concluded that they have sufficiently long fatigue life, provided that the traffic condition would be the same in the future.
