Classical multi-body system refers to the mechanism system which is composed of many bodies and all the bodies are assembled together by physical connections, each body can move relatively to others, so as to achieve special movement or force transmission. But, the classical multi-body system generally only studies on the system in which all the bodies are assembled together by physical connections such as pin, hinge, ram or screw thread, but not study on the non-physical connections, so the research fields is restricted to a small area. Many large or complex systems always incorporate mechanism, electron, hydraumatic, pneumatic and magnetism. There are physical connections between the bodies, and also information intercommunion of control and instruction. At that time the classical multi-body system shows its deficiency in the study on such complex systems. Take the construction machinery group., based on multi-agent system(MAS) for example, a concept of generalized multi-body system is advanced in this paper. The generalized multi-body system develops the classical multi-body system from two aspects: extension and intension. In extension, the elements composing multi-body system involve not only rigid and flexible bodies, but also mechanisms, assemblies and even individual machines; In intension, the connections between each bodies involve not only physical connections, but also information intercommunion of control and instruction. The topological structure and research technique of generalized multi-body system has been studied in this paper. The body elements, research fields and methods of generalized multi-body system are also studied.
