The rolling cone enveloping hourglass worm transmission put forward in the document [1][2] is a new type of enveloping hourglass worm transmission with high efficiency , heavy load , long life-span . However , the worm tooth surface machining method is still part of mesh machining ones which is widely used in the tooth surface machining field . Therefore , the wearing of tool generatrix can affect the worm tooth shape precision , which can affect thereby its mesh performance . The tooth shape error of the machined worm resulting from the wearing of grinding wheel is always a knotty problem in worm mesh machining . However the chance that solves this problem is gained , along with CBN grinding wheel grinding technique putting into practice day by day . In this paper , the modern grinding technique such as CBN grinding wheel and GDZ electric major shaft , variable frequency driving, etc. is introduced into the rolling cone enveloping worm tooth surface precision machining, which has the above problem in worm machining solved very well . The concrete machining example has shown that hardness , finish and accuracy of worm tooth surface are all adequately by the application of CBN and GDZ technique .
