The paper discusses the Solid Waste management system of Calcutta (Kolkata) Metropolis, which is one of the biggest citiy of India. It gives the composition of the solid waste according to different types and also their chemical compositions. It also discusses the disposal system. The street children who also help in scavengers' work depend to some extent for their livelihood on the solid waste. The paper discusses the socio-economic condition of them and the effect of lead on them.
