Since the Maritime Education throughout the world is not all at University Level, at times it is rather difficult to compare Maritime Universities with other Universities. In this paper, minimum STCW 95/IMO Standards of Maritime Education throughout the world is first introduced. Then different systems / types of Maritime Education practiced in different countries is summarized. In Turkey, being one of the Founding / Representative Universities of IAMU where Maritime Education is carried out at University Level traditionally a pilot comparison of Maritime Universities and other Classical Universities is presented utilizing a number of boundary conditions of utmost importance in education. Similar approach is generalized for the other countries summarizing the results in a table form, the ideas belonging to the author, ONLY. The results indicate that the Maritime Education in Universities has several advantages compared with Classical University Education of other disciplines. Some weaknesses are observed in areas like student quality (in developed countries), Academical qualifications of Staff Members, and amount of research work carried out in comparison with similar boundary conditions of other Universities. It is also observed that especially in developing countries where the Maritime Education is carried out traditionally at TOP Level University education, these weaknesses are being improved at utmost pace and speed, in the last decade. The Maritime University Education has certain advantages compared to Classical University Education. The international dimension of Maritime University Education in the very near future with emphasis on "sharing of training materials", "coordination between Maritime Training Universities / Institutes", "international availability of funding for new training technology", "utilization of a world-wide data base and data bank", "the foundation of a global accreditation body", "institute classification towards establishing the Global Maritime Training University / Institute Network" thus "transfer of experience and sharing of training resources" will yield in increasing the standards of Maritime University Education throughout the World. Also "development of a standard curricula", "development of a standard CoC Examination System", "development of a Maritime English Examination System" are other boundary conditions of Maritime University Education, if utilized properly, can contribute vastly towards increasing the quality standards of Maritime Universities where other Classical Universities can not compete with. IAMU as clearly stated in its "Basic Agreement" is contributing vastly in this direction with SUNY - ITUMF very new Dual Degree - Joint Program University Degree Deck / Engine Programs recently introduced to the International Maritime University Platforms as a unique example of the International Maritime University Education of the XXI Century initiating in Fall 2003.
