This study presents a comprehensive approach and a rigorousrnmethodology to evaluate the feasibility of ozonation and ultravioletrntechnologies for Cryptosporidium inactivation based on site-specificrnwater characteristics and disinfection objectives. The results of thisrnstudy demonstrates that conducting a thorough pilot-scale study canrnprovide valuable information for the design of a robust and soundrnprocess that could meet future disinfection regulations mainly centeredrnon Cryptosporidium inactivation. The use of microbial surrogates suchrnas Bacillus subtilis spores during pilot studies can also provide sitespecificrninformation on the future disinfection performance of potentialrnsuitable processes.
