摘要

In this paper the solution to the differential equation, which describes the elasto-static behavior of thin full circular cylindrical shells, is analytically solved. For a long cylinder under wind loading, for example a long industrial steel chimney, the stress distribution at the base is of key interest to the engineer. It is demonstrated that the stress distribution can easily be described by the beam action multiplied by a magnification factor which is uniquely defined by the geometry of the shell. The very suitable results presented here are a refinement of those presented by previous authors and can be utilized as a design tool for the shell structural engineer.
