Concrete columns are usually subjected to a concentric load. However, columns are often under eccentric loading condition due to the irregularity of the column arrangement in the frame system. It is well known that an eccentrically loaded column shows smaller ultimate strength than a concentrically loaded column. Therefore, the strengthening of the column must be considered under eccentric loadings. In this paper, the strengthening of the high strength concrete columns using the confined effects by use of the FRP wrapping are examined and the eccentrically loaded columns with FRP wrapping are analyzed numerically. In the numerical analyses, the columns are modeled from the experimental specimens. Several kinds of materials are considered for wrapping of columns. Finite element procedure is adopted for the numerical analyses and the load-deflection relation and the ultimate strength as well as the ductility of columns are evaluated. The numerical results are compared with the experimental results. From both numerical and experimental results, the failure mechanisms of concrete columns are explained and the effectiveness of the FRP wrapping of the concrete columns are presented.
