In order to investigate the influence of the initial β-vibrational motion of the fissioning nucleus on the scission configuration, we have measured the fragment mass distribution of the ~(240)Pu fission following the β-vibrational resonance. The β-vibrational state (K~π = 0~+ state) is formed on the second minimum ( superdeformed(SD) minimum ) of the double-humped fission barrier. This state is observed below the threshold energy in the form of an enhanced fission cross section due to a resonance tunneling induced when the excitation energy (E_(ex) of the compound nucleus matches the level.
