The main purpose of this study is to develop an appropriate welding pr℃edure for therninstallation of full encirclement repair sleeves on in-service, internally coated water lines. Thernnew proposed welding pr℃edure can be effectively used to sleeve repair internally coatedrnFusion Bonded Epoxy (FBE) water line with no harm on the internal coating. Any possiblerndamage of FBE can lead to frequent leaks. Prevention of coating damage will increase thernreliability of the supply/injection water system. The cost saving will be observed in increasingrnthe remaining life of the sleeved girth welds and defective trunk lines. In particular, fullrnencirclement sleeve repair is well known repair method and its effect on internal coating hasrnnever been evaluated. To come up with the optimum combined welding parameters, anrnexperiment has been conducted. Multiple weld passes were applied circumferentially andrnlongitudinally to weld sleeve on in-service API 5L X60 pipelines of 12” diameter X 0.375”rnthickness. This experiment is carried out on coated test spools with internal pressure of 185 psigrn(12.75 bar) and raw water temperature of 180 oF (82 ℃). From the actual observation of all casesrnperformed, a specific and safe sleeve repair pr℃edure is addressed in this paper.
