The design of I-section beams curved in plan, as may be used in highway bridges, usually assumes that the behavuour is linear. However, when such a beam is subjected to transverse (Vertical) loading, it experiences primary benbding and nonuniform torsion actions. As a result, the vertical deflections couple with the twist rotations, and the primary bending and torsion actions (w9th their associated deformations) then couple to produce second order bending actions in and out of the plane of the curved beam.
