In this paper, a new wal mtion actuator is presented for the boundary layer flow control. The actuator consists of a magnetic fluid layer with an elastic membrane surface and a coil system. The wall motion of the leastic membrane can be controlled by the adjustment of the electric current to the coils. The static and dynamic behaviors of the developed actuators have been experimentally investigated. The effectiveness of the actuator for the laminar flow control has been shown via the wind tunnel testing. Experimental studies have been performed to control boundary layer transition by superimposing Tollmien-Schlichting wave that are of equal amplitude and opposite phase to the disturbances.
