摘要

An automated highway system (AHS) has been defined as a system that combines vehicle and roadway instrumentation to provide some level of automated ("hands off/feet off") driving in a manner that results in improved safety, capacity, and trip predictability. Vehicles would be capable of functioning on both normal and automated roadways. Automated roadways are envisioned to use existing rights-of-way, and will evolve from current highway structures.
