This paper outlines the changes that have been introduced to the driver training programs at Queensland Rail as a result of current collaborative research programs between Queensland Rail and Central Queensland University in the field of train dynamics. The interaction between the research and the training is described and eighteen cases of driver performance during the training programs are presented. Driver training is measurably improved by presenting to drivers the broader picture of the influence that driver performance has on the railway and its various systems.
