Introduction 2,4-Dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP) is a compound that is widely used in large quantities in industries for production of wood preservatives, pesticides, herbicides and plastic materials. chlorinated compounds are usualy electron acceptors in the dechlorination process, and the reductive dechlorination may be stimulated by adding electron donors. Hydrogen is considered to be an effective electron donor for biological reductive dechlorination (He et al., 2002; Aulenta et al., 2005, 2008). The corrosion of iron under anaerobic condition produces cathodic hydrogen as indicated below in Eq. l(Liang et al., 2000) Fe0+ 2H2O=Fe2++ 2OH-+ H2 (1). Whereas so far, Fe0 supported the reductive dechlorination of chlorophenols has not been reported yet.
