@@Trace elements,such as selenium (Se) and iron (Fe), are considered important either for plants or for human health.Selenium plays an integral role with different enzymes participating in the antioxidant protection of cells and it shows anticarcinogenic properties against certain types of cancer (Clark et al.,1996).Iron is an essential nutrient for plants and crucial for a variety of cellular functions (Schmidt, 2003).However,over 60% of the world's population are iron deficient and about 15% are selenium deficient (White and Broadley,2005).In China,more than 72% of soils are condemned to be in trouble of selenium deficiency. Deficiencies of boron (B),manganese (Mn),copper (Cu),zinc (Zn) and molybdenum (Mo) are also common.In general,foods derived from plants are poor in Se except for those that have an elevated in certain protein content such as cereals and legumes.In this case,selenium is able to substitute for sulphur in protein amino acids (cysteine and cystine) (Donovan et al.,1992). The aim of this work was to study effects of application of Se and Fe on soybean yield and trace element accumulation in seeds grown on Se deficient soil.
