The cleanliness of production facilities is an important quality factor. With higher purity, environmental influences are minimized and in this way a better process control can be obtained. Therefore, the use of cleanroom technology is establishing in industries like the automotive industries more and more. To maintain the controlled contamination throughout the process, injection molds which are intended for production in cleanroom environments must be adequate to special needs. Thus, new challenges in planning and construction of injection molds arise. Special coatings for lubricant-free manufacturing support these concepts. The paper gives an overview of measures to fit these special needs.
